Why We March:
The March for Truth is a peaceful, national demonstration scheduled for June 3 in more than 100 cities and towns across America. Americans want an independent investigation into Russian interference in the election and whether Donald Trump or his associates played a role. An NBC poll says 78% support an independent investigation.
But don’t we have a Special Counsel appointed to investigate?
The special counsel is good news, must be unfettered to pursue the truth. The appointment of a special counsel cannot be allowed to impede Congressional probes, which are very important to helping the public determine what happened. The special counsel will do most of his work in private, and the work may take many months, or even years. It’s important to remember Deputy Atty. Gen. Rod Rosenstein, can fire Robert Mueller, the special prosecutor.
But don’t the House and Senate have investigations going on as well?
Yes and Congressional investigations in the House and Senate have been slow, under-resourced, and mired in partisan politics. These investigations should be properly resourced.
Why should I march with you?
For many, James Comey’s abrupt firing was a red line- it raises grave concerns about the rule of law. And news that Donald Trump fired him to put a halt to the Russia investigation is deeply troubling. It makes an independent investigation all the more urgent. Trump apparently attempting to tamper with and influence an FBI investigation should set off alarm bells for every American. This abuse of power, possibly more than anything, shows just how important and necessary the March for Truth is.
It’s absolutely critical for Congress to establish an *independent* commission with subpoena power to investigate these alleged crimes in a fair, bipartisan fashion. Americans in cities all across the county will freely and peacefully assemble and exercise their First Amendment rights to show the President, the media and the rest of the world that we demand an impartial, independent investigation into Trump’s alleged collusion with Russia during the 2016 Presidential Election;
The legitimacy of the United States government may hinge on the answers to these questions. If the President was elected even in part due to collusion with a foreign effort to interfere in our democratic process, then the will of the people has been subverted.
This is not a partisan protest. March for Truth is for everyone who wants a fair, impartial investigation. 78% of Americans support an independent investigation. Anyone who values truth, justice, and role of a fair trial in our democracy is welcome to join us.
